Public Service Announcement: Spyware, and browser hijacking
Wow, just wow. I really had no idea just how obscene spyware has gotten recently. Tonite, I came across this nasty, nasty browser hijacking spyware. It exploits the byteverifier bug in MS Java VM, and embeds itself DEEP into windows, and I mean deep. The end result was that anytime I searched in google, every other search results link was appended so that if you clicked on it, it would redirect you to the spyware search engine. After 2 hours of trying to figure out just wtf was going on, I finally found a fix for it. I used a combination of HijackThis and CWShredder to get rid of it (AdWare does not work). More info on just how far the spyware imbeds itself can be found here. Theres some 30 variants of this with different symptoms, but they're all a bitch to remove. t.t
ps. Don't use HiJackThis if you don't know what you're doing.

On a related note, has anyone been getting those multimedia ads on AIM? I don't mind the text ads on AIM, but it annoys the hell out of me when I'm watching a movie, or just doing work, and aim just starts playing an ad w/ sound. Its a giant wtf. Someone said that uninstalling the "viewpoint media player" which came w/ aim solves that problem. gona give that a shot & see how it goes.
God damn Ads. If Squarespace ever does any form of annoying advertising, I'm going to killl tony.

funny. 10 mins after I uninstalled the bundled media player w/ AIM, a movie trailor started rolling. *sigh* guess I'm gona have to switch to deadaim or something of that sort.
